George Washington's Credit Rating

George

I was thumbing through a book about George Washington the other day—stay with me here—and learned a couple of things I never before knew.

• No one ever said Washington “chopped down” a cherry tree. However, someone did say he damaged the bark of a cherry tree…and there’s a good chance that incident really happened.

• In Washington’s day, very little money exchanged hands. Most transactions were conducted with 20 percent cash and the rest on credit.

Interestingly enough, these two points were included in the same chapter of the book and they relate to each other. They are related because in Washington’s time, people had to know one another well enough to grant credit.

Credit reports?

I suspect that when Washington lived, a standard, big agency credit report—like conventional lenders rely on today—wouldn’t have made the “father of our country” look very good. However, the people who really got to know hem, knew he was a man of his word.

We apply the same reasoning here at Evoque Lending. We look at the total picture of a borrower and the property involved in every loan application. We don’t get tunnel vision and focus on just one number at the bottom of a report to deliver either a thumbs up or thumbs down.

Because we are local, we are much closer to our clients than the mega-corporate banks and lending institutions. We’re able to examine the finer details of the applications we receive and give them the attention they are due.

Solving problems

For these reasons, we’re in a position to fund loans that conventional lenders walk away from. And, as many of our clients know, sometimes these lenders walk away from loans at the most inconvenient times. This can throw a prospective homebuyer’s life into sudden turmoil.

Since we don’t do business in Virginia, we wouldn’t have been able to give Washington a loan when he purchased Mount Vernon. However, when it comes to real estate in Orange County, Los Angeles, San Francisco and other communities around California, we’re the go-to guys for first trust deeds when conventional lenders are uncooperative.

We feel fortunate that we’ve been able to help many homebuyers and investors get into the properties that help them achieve their financial and lifestyle plans. California real estate professionals have also come to rely on Evoque Lending to help save deals that would have otherwise been lost.

One of our most popular services is offering shorter term loans that help buyers purchase the properties they desire. This establishes their position and gives them the time to work out a longer term loan at their convenience.

We move quickly

And because time is very often critical in these situations, Evoque Lending has the speed and agility to deliver quick answers and fund loans within a matter of days.

So let me leave you with two pieces of information. First, if you want more details or would like to start the application process, call us today or send us an email with the details. Second, if you want to read a very interesting book on the early days of our first president, grab a copy of “The Education of George Washington: How a Forgotten Book Shaped the Character of a Hero,” by Austin Washington.
